About Robbie Williams
Take That was formed in
1990, and was a
successful five member
boy band during the
early to mid 1990s. In
1995, Williams, unhappy
with the discrepancy
between his and the
other members’ musical
vision, left the band
and launched a solo
career. Williams’ cover
of George Michael’s
Freedom became a hit in
the UK, reaching number
2 on the singles chart
in 1996. This kick
started Williams’ solo
career. The following
year his debut album
Life Thru A Lens was
released and was a
moderate success in the
UK.
After this somewhat
lukewarm start there was
a surprise to come!
Angels, the fourth
single from this album,
became a best selling
track and was certified
a 2x Platinum record!
I’ve Been Expecting You,
Williams’ second album,
spawned hot tracks like
John Barry’s Bond Theme
inspired Millennium and
No Regrets. Millennium
became Robbie’s first
solo number one UK
single.
Overall, Robbie’s second
album I’ve Been
Expecting You was a
great success, not just
in the UK, but also
across Europe, New
Zealand etc. The album
became a 10x Platinum
selling Album.
Williams also ensured
success in the US when
his single Millennium
was released.
The Ego Has Landed
released in 1999. Sing
When You’re Winning
spawned singles like
Rock DJ. The single
became an instant
success in the UK,
reaching the top spot
and becoming Robbie’s
third number one solo
single. The track also
became a huge hit and
peaked at number one in
other markets around the
world including New
Zealand, Germany,
Norway, Austria,
Australia and Italy.
Williams collaborated
with Kylie Minogue for
the track Kids and
included it in this
album. The single was an
instant hit and
certified Silver in the
UK. Some other singles
spawned by this album
were Supreme and Better
Man.
On the following album,
Swing When You’re
Winning, Williams
collaborated with
several artists such as
Nicole Kidman, Jonathan
Wilkes, Jon Lovitz and
Rupert Everett. Once
again, the album was a
huge success the world
over. Following 2000
Williams released
Escapology, Intensive
Care all of which were
successful in the UK and
several other markets.
Reality Killed the Video
Star is scheduled to be
released in November
2009. The single Bodies
was released on 12th
October 2009. Bodies
opened on UK singles
Chart at number 2.
Robbie also performed
the song on The X Factor
recently.
